A New Family Favorite + A Giveaway!

A few weeks ago, I received an email from my dear friend Ale (who happens to work for Kohl's) to see if I was interested in reviewing some of the Skippyjon Jones books, which are featured as part of the Kohl's Cares program. This program is amazing, because 100% of the profits from the featured products go straight to support kids' health and education initiatives in communities nationwide.

Of course I jumped at the chance to review these cute books- in fact, just a few days before hearing from Ale I was at Barnes & Noble and came thisclose to picking up one of the books. I had heard that they were really cute books, and I definitely wanted to read them to Dylan.

Honestly, I was just expecting to receive one book in the mail, but instead I received this amazing spread:
That's right- 5(!) Skippyjon Jones books, 2 darling stuffed animals, 2 fabulous cook books (Busy Family Recipes and Campbells Best-Loved Recipes), Eat This, Not That for Kids, and the cutest shipping box I have ever seen. Amazing.

I've read the books to Dylan, and he just loves them. They revolve around a big-eared Siamese cat named Skippyjon Jones, who pretends that he is a Chihuahua. The books have the cutest rhymes and with some Spanish and Spanglish mixed in.

His favorite was Skippyjon Jones and the Big Bones, because he's in a major dinosaur phase right now. The illustrations are adorable as well, and Dylan wanted me to keep reading the parts with the "scary" dinosaurs over and over.

These books would be great for any kids, from preschool through elementary school. Don't have kids? Already have a few of the books? These would also make such a great gift. Really, these books are fabulous and would be a great addition to any child's book shelf.

Here's where this gets really great for all of you:

I'm giving away the assortment of Skippyjon Jones books and the other goodies featured above! Hooray!

Here's all you have to do:
Leave a comment on this post, and tell me your favorite book from childhood.
(I loved The Berenstain Bears)

One entry per person, and the givaway closes at on September 9, with the winner announced on September 10.

I was a huge Babysitters Club fanatic. Not early childhood, but I read every single one of those books while I was in elementary school!

Fun giveaway!! I loved the Pokiest Puppy (and got teased that I was the Pokiest puppy). I loved the library as a kid & have vivid memories of trips to the library from a young age. I loved pop up books & thought I'd find them by typing in "pop up books" but it never worked. I'd try over & over again, though! As an older kid I loved Sweet Valley Twins.

I'd have to agree with most of the books already listed, but here is a little less known series I love... Dorrie the Little Witch. Her hat is always crooked and her socks never match, and she has a cat named Gink that goes with her everywhere. I just found them again and have read them to my boys. They've enjoyed them.

I loved several as a kid.... but I can't remember the title of my very favorite book. It was about a little witch whose mom was really scary. The mom would sleep all day and then go haunting all night- leaving the little witch alone. The little witch imagined that she was really the daughter of a fairy instead of a witch. She would make potions each night to see if she could really conjure up a fairy. During the day, the little witch would sneak out and go to school- which she loved. Anyone, the ending is that she really WAS a fairy's daughter, and had been stolen by the witch as an infant. Her real mother was locked inside a mirror! She is able to free her mother and get away from the evil witch- was able to really go to school and live happily ever after. I would love to find that book again... if anyone knows it- let me know! I also loved the Little House on the Prairie series.
As a teenager, I had 3 books I loved: Fifteen (Beverly Cleary); Seventeenth Summer (Beverly Cleary); and Daddy Long Legs. I also LOVED the Anne of Green Gables series.

Ok soooo ummm I must confess that as a kid I was addicted to the Sweet Valley Twins. SUCH a big loser I know but I just could not get enough of Elizabeth and Jessica and the Unicorns drama. And the fact that in sixth grade they lived like college students. Yeah that was pretty cool too. I so badly wanted to be a Unicorn like Jessica and to date hot preppy Todd like Elizabeth. Yes I am that lame. Seriously though--what a great giveaway!

I had so many favorites....Black Stallion, Nancy Drew, Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley Twins, Boxcar Children, Anne of Green Gables...I was constantly reading! I don't remember as many from when I was really young, but I loved Berenstein Bears also. And I'm sure the little one coming will love reading just as much as I did!

If you have never heard Janet read these books, it is a must...hilarious. She does the best Spanglish Chihuahua voice in the world.

I loved Where the Sidewalk Ends, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Nancy Drew, all the Steven Kellogg books, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Quick As A Cricket.
I read it over, and over, and over. It's simple, but wonderful.
Sunshine already has it memorized.

We just discovered Skippyjon Jones! So cute! I was so into the Sweet Valley Series when I was younger. I had a geek out moment a year or so ago when the author released a new one!

I still have distinct memories of two books... "Quick as a Cricket" and "I Can Do It Myself." How excited was I to find "I Can Do It Myself" in the pediatrician's office?! I read it to G... and he didn't seem to care about anything but the Sesame Street characters!
