Race for the Cure

This past weekend my good friend Melissa and I ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Salt Lake. We wanted to run in memory of our great friend Randy Pesce, who died of breast cancer (or that's how her cancer began) jut a few months ago. The race was a 5k run with thousands of people. I was quite nervous about this because 1. I had never ran in a race (except for middle school track, but it was usually 400 meters or less) 2. I had not ran a distance close to 3.1 miles since I was engaged. Could I really do this? To prepare for this race, I ran 2 miles...just once... about a week and a half ago. Hmmm. Yeah, I was lacking in my preparation a little. Long story short, Melissa and I finished the race and ran the whole time! I was super proud of myself, because I started getting crampy around 1 1/2 miles and started getting really tired of running around 2 1/2, but I pushed through it. I know this is peanuts to my psycho friends who are training for marathons, but it was still a definite accomplishment for me. Here are some pictures to document the experience. Warning: these pictures were taken prior to 8 am, so please excuse the bags under the eyes and lack of makeup on my part.

You should be so proud of yourself! That is so great! Totally not peanuts to anybody. That is a long time to run, I am pretty sure it would kill me! :)

Chrissi! What a great thing you did! I'm pretty sure that I would collapse after about 1/4 mile of running. Good job.

Wooo hoo! I was actually thinking about doing that race too, but decided I liked my bed too much that morning. :) There is another thing coming up I'll have to tell you about. I'll try to talk to you sooner than later!

I can barley run around the block. So you are like a marathon runner to me.
