Quick rant.

If you're like me and listen to the "Top 40" radio stations, then you have definitely heard Rhianna's new song "S&M" about 50 times. I must say, it has a great beat and I find myself humming the "Come on, I like it like it like it" line all the time.

But....

Some of the other lyrics are atrocious! I tell my coworker pals on a regular basis that if I had a school age child and I heard them singing the song I would flip my lid! I'm not going to go into specifics, but if they were singing along the the "...... I love the smell of it" line, there would be a major throwdown!

How are these songs ok for the radio? Yes, she's not saying the F word (in this song at least), but some of the other things that she's saying/describing are just as bad! Makes me want to cover my toddler's ears! Earmuffs, Dylan!

I realize that there is only so much a parent can do to protect their child from getting corrupted by media, but I really feel that there needs to be more sensoring on the scandalous content that is on the radio, on tv, etc.

End of rant.

True enough. She is not the only one. I stopped listening to top 40 because of how trashy it is. Oldies all the way!

It's things like this that make me NOT want to have children. Even though I, myself, have been somewhat desensitized, I still recognize the downward spiral of our morals in this world. WHEN DID IT BECOME OK TO SING ABOUT THIS SH*T?! Sorry.

BUt my point is, I feel ya.

I just "heard" the lyrics yesterday & I was disgusted. I decided no more listening to that song. Yet last night when I woke up at 2 AM to go to the bathroom, guess what was being sung in my head? Not cool!

This makes me so so sad! I am very worried about what is going into the heads of the little ones. That is why, as parents of these sweet innocent children, we need to be proactive in what is in our homes. And, the first step is to make sure we, as adults, do not become desensitized ourselves. Keep your home, and the media in it, uplifting. OK- off the soapbox.

Last year I heard my 9 year old singing lyrics that he did not need to know. Albeit not as bad as her song, they were not appropriate for kids. The only thing we now listen to is Klov, the Christian music station. I do listen to top 40 songs while I workout at the gym, but otherwise only allow myself to listen to Christian music also. I wish could could find a way to be motivated atthe gym without listening to that music because it does affect us more than we realize.
